After the day-long speculation of the
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon logos yesterday, we've finally been given our answer in
today's Pokémon Direct: Generation 7 of Pokémon is on the way!
Fans have been
trying to guess what the next main series game will be since Omega Ruby and
Alpha Sapphire came out, if not longer. With the multiple Zygarde forms that
were revealed many people leaned towards "Pokémon Z," which seemed
like the logical answer. Others thought Gen 6 remakes of Red/Blue or Yellow for
the 20th Anniversary, but instead we've got the re-releases on the eShop.
All we know about Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon at this point is that it's a 3DS title as expected, it'll be out "Holiday 2016" with a world-wide release and it'll have nine languages to choose from instead of seven. Furthermore, you will be able to transfer Pokémon from the eShop versions of Red, Blue and Yellow to Sun and Moon via Pokémon bank.
With the confirmation of Sun and Moon we've now got a whopping six games in 2016 to mark two decades of Pokémon. Super Mystery Dungeon (in Europe) and Great Detective Pikachu (Japan only) came out earlier this month with the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament due for initial release on 18th March. There's no release date for Pokémon GO yet but the eShop versions of Red, Blue and Yellow will be available tomorrow (27th February), marking the 20th Anniversary of Pokémon's original release.
